Uzman looks at lockdown stress
WITH another wave of COVID-19 lockdown on the horizon, Canada rapper Uzman believes the situation will bring about some amount of stress.
“I don’t live in Jamaica, but I have relatives living there. I have heard about the first lockdown when persons living in St Catherine, for example, could not leave from their area. That was stress,” he told the Jamaica
Observer. “I am certain many of these same persons were not anticipating another lockdown this year and for three consecutive weekends.”
On Sunday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced new restrictions expected to last for the next three consecutive weekends in a bid to stem the current spike in COVID-19 figures. Starting on Saturday, March 27, 2021, the curfew begins at noon and continues throughout Sunday and ends 5:00 am on Monday.
As of yesterday, Jamaica recorded more than 37,000 positive cases and 546 deaths.
“What is going to happen to people who operate the corner shops and have no other means of livelihood? By the time they come out to sell their stocks, it will be time to pack up and leave. This will certainly have a negative effect on the elderly,” he said.
Uzman is currently promoting Stress Less, released March 1, 2021, on his Beat Charge Incorporated label. He feels its lyrics are encouragement in these testing times.
“This song is universal, especially, during this time, when the world is under stress from COVID-19. I don’t like stress because stress kills,” he said.
Uzman (given name is Paul Day) was born in Ontario to Jamaican parents — father from Trelawny and mother from St Catherine.
According to the rapper, his father inspired his trek into music.
At 17, he decided that he wanted to be an entertainer and began performing at community events in Toronto. His first release was Wine and Grind in 2010. The Wine and Grind remix with Junior Reid was released in 2014.
His other songs include Night Life ft Jah Mason (2013) and
Shot in Ma Cup ft Nuh Limit
Family (2015).
