Message from St. Andrew Settlement (SAS)

-

For almost a decade, Greta Bogues served with distinction as chairman of the St. Andrew Settlement (SAS), an outreach project of the St. Andrew Parish Church. Driven by the mandate to support the spiritual, educational and health needs of the residents of Majesty Gardens, the SAS provides dental and medical care, church services, an Infant School, a Homework Programme, a Learning Centre, and other services.

A kind-spirited and caring individual, Greta led the SAS in a highly organized and meticulous manner. She was touched by the dire needs of the over 3000 residents of the community, and this fuelled her passion for excellence in ensuring that the Board and staff of the SAS fulfilled the mandate.

Articulate and charismatic, Greta was instrumental in securing funding for the SAS by forging successful partnerships with public and private sector and other non-governmental organizations both locally and internationally.

She was a faith-driven leader who selflessly gave of her time, treasure and talents. Even when faced with slim resources, she consistently inspired her team with the hope of God’s provision for the needs of the Settlement. She enthusiastically participated in refurbishments to the infrastructure on the property and inspired others with her enthusiastic and generous spirit during fundraising and other activities. As a lay reader, she was instrumental in leading church services at Majesty Gardens and her sermons resonated with all age groups.

Greta Bogues leaves behind a strong legacy of lifetime partnerships between the SAS and the American Friends of Jamaica, Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation, the National Library of Jamaica, the National Health Fund, and other organizations. A stalwart and inspiring leader, Greta lived for God and blessed thousands in ways that will never be forgotten.
