Hello boys and girls, welcome back to the Junior Study Centre. Let me hope that you have been keeping well and safe as you observe the Covid protocols and that you have kept up with your online lessons. This year is very important as you complete your final year at the primary level. I believe that many of you are looking forward to attend the high school of your choice next year. In order to achieve this, it will take much hard work and sacrifice on your part. You will be successful if you are focused and dedicate yourself to doing your very best.

Today we will begin a new series of lessons on The

Environment. The environment is made up of all things that exist in our surroundings, whether they are natural, manmade, living or non-living. For our lessons we will be focusing on the natural environment. What are some of the things we would find in the natural environment? Some are water, rocks, soil, plants and animals. They exist naturally and are not manmade.

The natural environment consists of living and non-living things. It also includes weather, climate and the atmosphere. Using the information given, write a definition for the natural environment. Share your definition with the class and, along with your teacher, decide which definition is the best.

There are many different types of natural environments, including land, bodies of water, plants, animals and climate. Some of these environments are marine, freshwater, desert, forest, grasslands and tundra. During the weeks ahead we will be looking at some of these environments that are located in different areas in the world. We will see how they differ and how the environment affects the plants and animals that live there.

Before we begin, observer your school or a nearby environment. Note the land whether it is rocky, sandy, moist etc., the plants and animals that are there and the general climate of the area. If possible, compare two different types of environment and see how they differ or are alike, and the type of plants and animals that are found in each. For our lesson this week, we will be looking at Deserts and in particular, the Hot Desert Environment.
