Clan Carthy take early lead at Eastern Region Champs

CLAN Carthy have taken the early lead with 11 points after one final on day one of the 2022 INSPORTS Eastern Region Track and Field Championsh­ips at the National Stadium East Track on Monday.

Following the leader were John Mills on 10, Harbour View nine, Windward Road six, and New Providence with one point.

The girls’ Open high jump was won by Adajah Drysdale from Harbour View with a leap of 1.40 metres, ahead of Sanique Watt from John Mills (1.30m) and Sashane Smith from Clan

Carthy, also with 1.30 metres.

Meanwhile, 11 finals will be contested today with the action beginning at 9:00 am.

The finals to be contested are the boys’ high jump open, girls’ cricket ball throw, boys’ open cricket ball throw, and the finals of the 4x1000m relays for all four classes for girls and boys.

So far the competitio­n is still wide open as athletes try to qualify for the semi-finals of individual events.

The 4x100m relays to be run at 3:30 pm this afternoon will have highly fancied schools in the finals, including defending champions St Richard’s, Lyssons, Harbour View, Winward Road, John Mills, St Patrick’s, and Half-way-tree.

Meanwhile, the Class One boys’ 400m will have the two fastest times as Jahdane Campbell from Shortwood Practising clocking 55.26 seconds and Sheldane Alexander of Harbour posting 57.65 seconds and the ones to beat in semi-finals.

Akeary Senior from Mona Heights with 13.51, Zanjay Carty from Maxfield

Park 13.84, Mario Rose from Lyssons with 13.60 seconds, and Aiden Kerr from St Richards have the four fastest times from the Class One boys’ going into today’s 100m semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the Class One girls’ 100m, Gabrielle Gorden from St Richard’s with 14.41, Jadem Harris from John Mills with 4.43, Ciara Williams from Holy Rosary 14.23 seconds, and Ashley Barrett from St Richard’s were quickest in the heats.
