THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES DEVELOPMENT & ENDOWMENT FUND (UWIDEF) DONATES J1.5$ MILLION TO THE UWI MONA GUILD OF STUDENTS
The University of the West Indies Development & Endowment Fund (UWIDEF) donates J1.5$ million to the UWI Mona Guild of Students.
The UWI Development and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF) and UWI Guild of Students have again partnered in support of UWI Mona students to ensure that the pursuit of tertiary education, though a difficult financial hurdle for many, is not an impossible feat.
The President of the Guild of Students Danielle Mullings visited the UWIDEF office for the formal handover of a grant for Ja $100,000.00 from UWIDEF for the purchase of laptops for students in need.
Miss Mullings met with the Executive Director Mrs. Carla Seaga and Projects Officer Miss Francine Warren-kidd to discuss the Guild’s programs.
Through additional funding made available from UWIDEF, the Guild will also be awarding three grants to needy students:
• The UWI Mona Guild Accessibility Grant (valued at Ja $100,000.00) for a disabled student with a verifiable need.
• The Guild’s One of Us Grant (valued at Ja $50,000.00), for students pursuing BSC. in any Faculty at UWI with a verifiable need and demonstrated social involvement.
• The Guild Part-time Assistance (PTA) Grant (Valued at Ja $50,000.00), for Part-time students pursuing a BSC. in any Faculty at UWI, with a GPA of at least 3.0 or CAPE exams and verifiable need.
With this financial support of $300,000.00, this brings the total to JA$1.5M provided by UWIDEF to the Guild to date.
These grants have been made possible because of the generous contributions made by donors to UWIDEF. UWIDEF is currently working on ways to boost this support in an effort to provide a greater level of assistance to the University.
