Batting first after winning the toss, Excelsior started shakily at 0-1 and 16-2 in the encounter at STETHS Sports Complex.

But Brandon English, with a 41-ball 45, which included three fours, and Morris Tenn, who struck 50 not out off 38 balls with three sixes and two fours, helped the urban area Grace Shield winners to what seemed a challenging score.

However, STETHS were never under pressure, putting away the loose deliveries and running well between the wickets.

Opener Sean Roye set the tone with a composed 28-ball 40, including six fours, before a run out ended his stay.

Powell then took total charge, hitting three sixes and six fours before being dismissed with the scores level.

Malique Williams provided good support with 24.

Scores: Manchester 95 (18.2 overs); Wolmer’s 96-4 (13.3 overs).

After winning the toss, Manchester High struggled on a pitch with low bounce against the combined spin attack of Matthew Aljoe, who took 2-6 from four overs; Nicholas Holung (2-14 from three overs); and Jordan Johnson (2-0 from two balls), the latter claiming the last wickets of the Manchester innings with successive deliveries.

Manchester High Captain Sanjay Walker top-scored with 22.

Wolmer’s made light work of the run chase, tying up the victory halfway into the 14th over.

Johnson, a West Indies Under-19 batsman scored a 22-ball 30, laced with four fours and two sixes, and the wristy scored Justin Beckford 30 not out. Beckford faced 21 balls, while hitting two fours and a six.
