‘Turn them in’
SSP Ellis urges St James residents to take in family members listed as wanted men
Commander of the st James police Division, senior superintendent of police (ssp) Vernon ellis, is making an impassioned plea to residents to turn over their family members when they are listed by the police as wanted men.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer West following the release of 16 individuals listed as persons of interest by the St James police earlier this week, SSP Elllis noted that it has been noticed in several instances that after individuals have been listed as wanted, they are killed, either during confrontation with members of the security forces or by gunmen.
“What I have observed throughout the period is that when we put out their names and they refuse to come in they end up dead. Is either gunman kill them or they get killed in confrontation with the police,” SSP Ellis noted.
“So family members if you say you care about your family and they make the wanted list, take them to the police. Don’t scatter roses after them gone.”
The 16 listed as wanted for various crimes in St James are:
•Nickeela Lewis, of Lilliput, who is being sought in connection with two murders;
•Jeffery Binger of Lilliput, for murder;
•Oshane Earle of Lottery, for murder;
•Demarlo Anthony Archer of Cambridge, for wounding with intent;
•Tevon Johnson of Mount Salem for shooting with intent;
•Carl Vanhorne of King Street, Montego Bay, for murder;
•Kingsley Drummond of Montego Bay, for murder;
•Kenroy Roach of Hampton, for murder;
•Jowayne Brissett of Lilliput, for rape and robbery with aggravation;
•Bennie Campbell of Lottery, for rape,
•Phillip Sterling of Salt Spring, for shooting with intent;
•Mark Sterling of Salt Spring, for shooting with intent;
•Tevin Shaw of Lima, for wounding with intent;
• A man who goes by the name of “Nitro” of Spring Garden, for shooting with intent;
•Oshane Earl of Amity Hall, for three counts of wounding, and
•Jamoy Richards of Norwood, for wounding with intent.
The head of the St James police explained that the targeting of wanted individuals is in keeping with an operational surge in the parish following a recent spike in murders in the parish.
According to SSP Ellis, since April some 79 people have been arrested and charged for various offences including murder. Over the period, the police also seized 48 pounds of cocaine, large sums of cash and 368 pounds of ganja.
