Football returns to Montego Bay Sports Complex after three-year break

-

Premier League (JPL) double-header.

Montego Bay United (MBU) will play the Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached Arnett Gardens in the second game set to start at 5:15 pm after defending champions Cavalier FC take on Vere United in the opening game set to kick off at 3:00 pm.

The last local football game to be played at the Catherine Hall-based complex was the 2019 ISSA dacosta Cup final when Clarendon College beat Dinthill Technical 3-0.

In the first game of that double-header, BB Coke High had won their only schoolboys’ football title, taking the ISSA Ben Francis KO over Garvey Maceo High 4-1 on penalty kicks.

MBU, who are at rock bottom in the JPL, on a mere five points from 16 games and have earned a single point from their last 12 outings, will be hoping this is the venue where their luck will change.

The team, who rejoined the JPL this season, have managed to score just eight goals all season and only one in their last 13 games.

MBU’S Coach Leacroft Lettman will have his work cut out against the high-flying Arnett Gardens who are coming off their second loss in their last five games.

Despite the slight dip in recent form, Arnett Gardens, who had won the first meeting between the clubs 3-1 despite ending the game with nine players, are still in third place on 31 points.

In the first game, Cavalier FC, who edged Arnett Gardens 1-0 in their last game, will be seeking backto-back wins when they take on 10th place Vere United who are on 14 points.

Vere United have only earned a point from their last four games and have only scored nine goals in their 16 games played and will face a Cavalier FC team that have won twice and drawn another game in their last five outings.
