SURREY ROYALS Captain Javelle Glenn says his team found peak form at the right time, culminating in the four-wicket win over Surrey Kings in the Dream 11 Jamaica T10 Blast final at Sabina Park on Thursday.

“Winning this T10 tournament for me and my teammates, it’s really good for us. I’m very pleased. Give thanks to the Almighty,” Glenn said during a post-game interview.

“I think from about the fifth game or thereabout the team really came together and it was really good at that point,” he added in reference to the Royals finishing the preliminary phase strongly to top the league table with 21 points from 10 games.

West Indies Test vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood, who skippered the Kings, conceded the Royals were better on the day.

“We knew 111 was going to be hard, but we backed our bowlers to defend it. But in the end Surrey Royals played good cricket right down to the end and I give them full credit for that,” he said.

Peat Salmon was the hero for the Royals, taking two wickets to help limit the Kings to 110-7 and later smashing an eight-ball unbeaten 21 in his team’s total of 114-6.

Scores: Kings 110-7 (10 overs); Royals 114-6 (9.1 overs)

Batting first after the Royals won the toss and elected to bowl, the Kings, who dramatically lost form after being the dominant team up to the halfway point of the competition’s league phase, lost wickets each time they appeared to be gathering momentum on Thursday.

Kennar Lewis, known for his big-hitting prowess in local circles, survived a few chances to be the only Kings player to pass 13. After a scratchy start, he went on to top-score with a 32-ball 52, which included five sixes and a four.

Left-arm spinners Raewin Senior and Ryan Francis grabbed 2-14 and 2-29, respectively, while off spinner Salmon had 2-17.

The Royals were off to a bullet start, and despite losing wickets regularly they were held together by a quickfire 30-run stand between top-scorer Carlos Brown (37 from 14 balls) and Salmon for the fifth wicket. Brown struck four fours and three sixes, while Salmon counted two fours and a six.

The Royals’ opener Leroy Lugg added 21 from nine balls.

Pacer Andre Dennis snatched 2-25 for the Kings.
