Saturday’s Overnight – a straight clash between Billy Whizz, Mahogany

- BY RUDDY ALLEN Observer staff reporter

While attention will be placed on the second staging of The Portmore, the Overnight Allowance contest (six furlongs) will not be short of excitement.

This Overnight call sees the return to active competition of last year’s 2000 Guineas winner Miniature Man, plus long-standing jockey Allen Maragh is back in the saddle on local soil.

The analysis of each runner and their chances of winning is published below.

1. BILLY WHIZZ: (4 ch g by Northern Giant – Khadiliah) – Put in a noticeable performance on his seasonal bow with a second-place finish behind Nuclear Noon over the straight course on April 3 by 1 3/4 lengths. With the distance increased, more to his liking, has every chance of winning but coming from the one draw, he has to get out quickly.

2. HELICOPTER: (5 b g by Storm Craft – Face Tracker)

– In for the ride.

3. MAHOGANY: (5 ch g by Sensational Slam – Meteorite) – Was all the rage on his debut on April 18 over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Then Mahogany finished three parts of a length behind Runaway Algo in a time of 1:05.3. Mahogany should now be fitter and ready for battle and once he uses his speed will be difficult too catch.

4. DEN STREET: (4 b g by Northern Giant – All For Pleasure) – A winner last week in claiming, but against these, has an impossible task.

5. MINIATURE MAN: (4 ch g by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Returns to competitive racing after a break of 308 days. Miniature Man, who won last year’s 2000 Guineas, is going to need some time, plus the distance is short for him.

6. RAS EMANUEL: (10 b h by Burning Marque – Pleasant
