What’s the logic behind these closures, NCB?

-

Dear Editor,

I got confirmation via e-mail that Cross Roads National Commercial Bank (NCB) branch will merge with Duke Street and the Oxford and Knutsford branches will merge on May 6, 2022.

The middle-income to poor people living in these areas will now have a longer commute to and from the branches.

It is worthy of mention that all the branches to be merged are usually overcrowded, with long lines and extremely lengthy wait time for services. How then will the merger of four branches to create two result in any type of efficiency for the customers? It seems to me the situation will get worse.

Has any of the senior members truly measured or have an idea of how middle-income to poor people will be impacted? I would like to see the most senior members of the bank make unannounced visits to these mentioned locations and see what customers have to endure.

I cannot fathom any logical reason as to how such a decision will benefit customers or better the image of the bank. Why must extreme profits be the sole justification over comfort and acceptable services to the dedicated customers?

Why would NCB now expand on the pain and suffering of customers? In the end, the conclusion is: No one cares. After all, while the customers are in long lines for hours, senior management benefits by enjoying air-conditioned offices, luxury cars, and big cocktail speeches paid for by our sweat and misery.

I believe both branches that are scheduled for closure fall within the constituency of Member of Parliament Julian Robinson. What has he done to address this unfortunate development that will be felt throughout his zone?

Shouldn’t the Government have some concerns when conglomerates, such as NCB, create additional hardship in our country? These are the little things that, if addressed in the name of the people, will be appreciated; politicians and the banks would have served the nation by ensuring equitable access to services.

Prosperity doesn’t only have to come in the form of the mighty dollar; a society free of stress can be the result of well-managed services to the masses of this country.
