‘I am almost there!’
Sprinter Oblique Seville says he’s nearing sub-10 seconds
“Iam almost there!”
Those were the words of Oblique
Seville, the next locally-based athlete who appears likely to dip below 10 seconds in the 100m.
The former Calabar High School standout ran 10.00 flat to win the finals of the men’s 100m on Saturday at the JAAA/SDF Jubilee Series held at the National Stadium in Kingston, this after a solid performance earlier in the evening.
Seville ran 10.27s, running into a strong headwind of -3.1m/s in the semi-final which was a sign of things to come.
Later on, as the wind died down, the 21-year-old returned to win the final in much the same way he won the semi-final, running away from the field, but even faster.
While pleased with running yet another personal best this season, Seville wanted to dip below the 10-second barrier on Saturday.
“I am pleased with the time, but I wanted to run nine seconds, but I have to be patient. My day will come,” he said.
The diminutive sprinter eases through the gears nicely and his smooth running style is the hallmark of his racing. However, he thinks that there are still technical areas of his race that need fixing and he will be continuing to work on that.
“I just have to train, go back to the drawing board and do what I need to do and just hope for the best. I had some technical issues, but each time I got to training I have to keep my focus and know that I have to get it corrected,” he explained.
Seville has been a model of consistency this season and it seems just a matter of time before he joins the much desired sub-10 club.
