SKENG is scheduled to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half-waytree on November 7. He was advised of the new date when he appeared in court last Thursday.

He is facing charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in relation to an alleged incident which occurred at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston in June 2022.

The deejay’s attorney, Christopher Townsend, spoke to the Jamaica Observer about the case’s postponement.

“The Crown has not had the opportunity to view the tape yet... We had asked for the security camera footage of the area and they had provided the footage, but unfortunately, when we observed it, the footage was edited. What we wanted was the raw footage, but what we got was an edited footage. And the part where he was pepper sprayed, we didn’t see that to make a determination as to whether the pepper spray was warranted. We maintained it was never warranted as we weren’t doing anything,” the high-profile attorney told the Observer.

“But in viewing the tape, I formed the opinion that the entire thing did not need to occur and the persons who are in authority, who should exercise the degree of control in the area, did not do so, in my estimation. Tempers was flaring from both sides and got out of hand before the police even got there. So the police observation might be skewed not knowing the genesis of the problem... It could have been handled differently from both sides. Quite frankly, all persons should just apologise to each other because it was something that got out of hand and was never properly controlled,” he continued.

According to police reports, Skeng (given name was Kevaun Douglas) was involved in a confrontation with officials at the NMIA at about 1:50 pm in May. During the incident, he was allegedly pepper sprayed by the police. He was attempting to board a flight to Trinidad, where he was headliner of an event dubbed the Revival Return Of Dancehall on May 28.

Townsend said the dancehall artiste will still able to honour his overseas gigs and is committed to the advancement of his career.

“As you know, he just did a collab with Nicky Minaj and he is looking forward to do quite a number of international acclaimed artistes around the world. The truth is they’re really knocking at his door. And so, this kind of distraction is not needed as he matures in his profession,” said Townsend.

In addition to the Likkle Miss remix with Nicky Minaj, Skeng is known for songs including Protocol, Heaven Passport (with Intence), Gunman Shift, London, and Street Cred.
