Congratulatory Message from JAMAICA CHINA FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION

-

The Jamaica China Friendship Association extends its warmest Congratulations to the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of its founding.

This year’s Anniversary is to us even more special as it also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between our two Nations.

Of what importance, one may ask is the latter Anniversary to both Peoples, one with the largest population on this planet and the other the size of one city in China?

One needs to go to history to find the reply:

China’s history goes further back than most countries in the world, some 5000 years; Its ships sailed the seas when other peoples rowed canoes; its banks minted money when others traded goods; its art and written history shows that its people lived in buildings and palaces when others lived in huts.

Two hundred years ago China was invaded, defeated ruined and plundered. A hundred years ago it was further ruined by disastrous civil wars.

Then the tide turned: seventy three years ago, the new leader Mao Zhedong declared on the 1st October 1949 the birth of The People’s Republic of China.

Since that fateful day, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China(cpc), China has grown to be the second largest economy in the world.

Its economic progress, its progress in Science and Technology, the improvement in the standard of living of its people and its new role in international leadership has been declared nothing short of a miracle.

Having brought within the last 40 years over 800 million people from abject poverty to comfortable middle class standard of living, is recognized an accomplishment unprecedented in world history,

It then has turned to invest and therefore assist, small, developing countries like ours.

This has helped China in terms of friendly relations, a handful of votes at the World Forum of the United Nations and NORMAL TRADING ACCESS in some of these countries to what they have to sell such as minerals, fishing rights etc. AT FAIR PRICES. Unlike in previous arrangements, BOTH SIDES HAVE BENEFITTED.

We therefore applaud the policies of China in recognizing the advantages of fair treatment with both large and small countries of the world as it has shown since entering the World Trade Organization in December 2001 which has benefited all those small countries like Jamaica trying to lift themselves from poverty.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT AND THE PEOPLE Of THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ON ITS 73Rrd ANNIVERSARY AS WE ALSO CELLEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
