Lure of Lucy the charm in Fan Appreciation Day feature
LURE of Lucy, who produced two encouraging runs on the backend of last year, should bring form into play and prove hard to beat in the $1.14-million Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) Fan Appreciation Day Trophy feature contest at Caymanas Park today.
The five-year-old Americanbred bay mare finished a good third by nine lengths behind stablemates She’s My Destiny and Make Up Artist in the St Elizabeth Distaff over one a mile (1,600m) on November 12, 2022.
The Jason Dacosta-trainee then returned on December 3 and was beaten by a neck by stablemate Miniature Man in the Chairman’s Plate over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Those two runs confirmed her readiness for this engagement and, having beaten most of her rivals here in the Chairman’s Plate run, Lure of Lucy should beat rivals with minimum fuss. Omar Walker remains in the saddle.
D Head Cornerstone, Sir John, Hover Craft, and Positive ID, who all finished behind Lure of Lucy in the Chairman’s Plate, should once again follow her home here. Crimson, who had lost his rider during that race, is expected to come in hand here also.
The Fan Appreciation Day Trophy, a Non-restricted Overnight Allowance event going over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m), is the eighth event on the nine-race programme with a post time of 4:10 pm. First race is at 12 noon.
Positive ID, trained by Michael Marlowe, was the best finisher behind Lure of Lucy, having finished fourth by 5½ lengths. Positive ID returned to finish second by ¾ lengths behind Prince Marshall over one mile on December 17. He goes well over two turns and is expected to put in another good effort.
Hover Craft was the nextbest finisher, ending fifth by 7 1/4 lengths. He is the oldest runner at this level at 12 years old so credit goes to Jason Dacosta and his team for presenting Hover Craft to the races in immaculate condition. He is a lover of the circular course and could spring a surprise.
Both D Head Cornerstone and Sir John, who were ninth and 11th, respectively, have no chance here as far as winning is concerned.
An excuse can be given for Crimson who is one of the horses on the watch here. Crimson had lost all of his chances after losing his rider navigating the clubhouse turn in the Chairman’s Plate. He is also one of those runners who is effective going two turns and if all goes well for him, he can surely be on the premises at the very end of the race.
The rest of the runners are
Big Big Daddy, Chinamax, and
Ring Charmer.
Also on tap are the $1million Mckay Security Trophy, the $1-million Mckay Security Sprint Trophy, and the $720,000 2023 New Year’s Day Trophy.
