Anderson treble catapults Cavalier to second

- — Robert Bailey

A well-taken hat-trick by Colin Anderson fired Cavalier SC to second in the Jamaica Premier League ((JPL) standing in their 3-0 victory over Tivoli Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.

The frontman’s goals came in the 25th, 45th and 90th minutes.

The victory has moved Cavalier from third to second place on 16 points. Mount Pleasant Academy lead the with 20 points, while Harbour View are third on 15.

Tivoli, who were suffering their fourth defeat of the season, are 11th in the standings with six points.

Anderson is now the leading goal scorer in the JPL this season with six goals.

Anderson, former Calabar High School Manning Cup standout, gave Cavalier the lead when he arrived at the near post to tap home a well-measured cross from Ronaldo Webster past goalkeeper Kewong Watkins.

The stocky Anderson, who tormented the Tivoli Gardens players with his pace and dribbling, netted Cavalier’s second goal of the match on the stroke of half-time with simple tap in from close range.

The live wire Anderson came close to scoring to completing the hat-trick in the 75th minute, but his shot from 12 yards went high over the crossbar.

Tivoli also created a number of scoring opportunities in the second period, but they failed to hit the target.

However, Anderson returned to put the icing on the cake in the 90th minute when he fired home from point-blank range.

Rudolph Speid, sporting director of Cavalier, was not totally satisfied with his team’s performance.

“We will take the three points but we didn’t play well away... we got the victory and that is the most important thing for us,” said Speid.

Tivoli Head Coach Jermaine “Teddy” Johnson said poor decision making at crucial points in the game resulted in his team’s defeat.

“I didn’t think we had a bad game, but it’s just the mistakes that we made that cost us the match,” said Johnson.

In other results, waterhouse defeated Faulkland 1-0, Mount Pleasant Academy outclassed Montego United 5-1, while it was goalless between Humble Lions and Vere United.
