“JAKES ROOTS date back to 1941”

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF BLACK RIVER DERRICK SANGSTER, O.D

-

As the mayor of Black River I stand proud to congratulate the Jake’s family on their 30th anniversary. Jake’s roots date back to 1941 when Basil and Joyce Densham built a modest 2 bedroom cottage on Calabash Bay.

Today I am proud to see Jake’s, through the hard work of grandson Jason Henzell, transformed to a world class tourism product, now grown to having 75 luxurious rooms, villas and cottages, a spa and 3 restaurants including the Jake’s Hotel, Jack Sprat and Lovers Leap.

I am also encouraged by the tremendous community work done by Breds under the leaderships of Mr. Henzell and the plans to significantly upgrade the Lionel Densham Aerodrome. I trust a robust succession plan is being put in place for a 4th generation to celebrate another 30 years.

Let me also congratulate the Jake’s Hotel Treasure Beach team for being placed among the top hotels awarded by Travel awards, Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice. I must also acknowledge Jake’s, the home of the Calabash International Literary Poetry Festival, which has been awarded hotel of the year by the Caribbean Journal and other achievements including; Caribbean

Journal “Hotel of the Year”, Travel Magazine “Best Beds Jamaica”, Sunday Times, “Hot Hotel” among many more awards.

Through the innovation and dreams of Jason, the community of Treasure Beach has seen a new frontier in sports with the development of the Sports Complex, which is the home of several local and international sporting events and international sporting personalities.

Once again, congratulations on 30 years of history making, and I am confident your image will continue to shine.

“I believe that if you’re going to do something, just do it from your heart.” - Jason Henzell
