MESSAGE FROM THE JHTA PRESIDENT – ROBIN RUSSELL

It gives me great pleasure to extend our Association’s heartfelt congratulations to the management and staff of Jakes Hotel as they celebrate their 30th Anniversary. The tourism industry is built on the foundation of strong partnerships and collaboration. As such, the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) is pleased to have had Jakes Hotel as a committed partner within the industry over the past three decades. Jakes Hotel being uniquely positioned in St. Elizabeth the South Coast of the island adds to the diversity of the tourism product that Jamaica prides itself in offering.

I use this opportunity to applaud the Chairman of Jakes Hotel, Mr. Jason Henzell for his exceptional role in the development of the sector. Interestingly, he has pioneered community tourism in the area, transforming a quaint fishing village in the middle of the island into a leading tourism destination. Mr Henzell is among those at the forefront of the development of Treasure Beach.

In highlighting the positive contributions of Jakes Hotel to brand Jamaica, we also must recognise and applaud the hotel’s efforts in local and sustainable development, sourcing their produce by supporting those local farmers and fisher folks whose practices are environmentally friendly.

Thanks to Mr Henzell and his visionary leadership for the outstanding philanthropic efforts which have significantly contributed to community development. He has mobilised resources through tourism to birth the BREDS Foundation and Treasure Beach Sports Park & Academy which have poised the community for excellence through active involvement.

On that note, the JHTA and our members are proud of your contributions to the sector, the development of brand Jamaica, and our country as a whole. Thank you and congratulations on making it Thirty awesome years!
