Sagicor Foundation Scholarship now open to tertiary students

-

NEW and returning tertiary students will have an opportunity to access up to $300,000 each to continue their studies by applying for a 2023 Sagicor Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship, which is renewable for three years after being awarded, is applicable for first-degree programmes.

Karl Williams, executive vicepresident, shared services, Sagicor Group Jamaica, expressed that Sagicor Foundation, the group’s charitable arm, continues to be a beacon of hope for aspiring youth.

“One of our mandates at the foundation is to enhance the education sector so the scholarship programme was created with this is mind. We have had the opportunity to assist some of the brightest youngsters in achieving their goals over the years,” shared Williams.

“We recognise and understand the financial burdens that can be a hindrance for many when pursuing a higher education but we have met many resilient students who, regardless of the circumstances, continue to perform at a high level.”

The scholarship is open to clients, children of clients, and team members’ children, with scholars being selected based on academic performance, community involvement and volunteerism, strong leadership potential, and financial need.

Kyra Keagan, first-year student at The University of the West Indies, shared her experience of being a 2022 Sagicor scholar.

“The application process was very seamless for me, and when I got the call that I was shortlisted I was both happy and nervous. My interview went well, and I ended up being selected to be a Sagicor scholar out of hundreds of applicants. The scholarship has not only helped me to secure my future but it has provided a lot of volunteering and networking opportunities, which has been very beneficial to my overall development,” shared Keagan.

The tertiary scholarship is open to applicants pursuing their first degree at The University of the West Indies, Mona; University of Technology, Jamaica; Northern Caribbean University; Caribbean Maritime University; Mico University College; Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts; and the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean.

Eligible students can apply online at sagicorfoundationscholarships.com until Friday, June 9.*
