Leaders Meadforest face Racing in Tier II tourney
TUCKER, St James — Leaders Meadforest FC will meet third-place Racing United while second-place Treasure Beach and fourthplace Tru-juice FC will meet today in the Jamaica Football Federation Tier II competition, with games set to kick off at 3:30 pm.
Two points separate the top five teams, including Lime Hall Academy, and today’s games between the top four could have an effect on where they end up following conclusion of the regular season.
Meadforest FC and Treasure Beach are tied on 19 points while Racing United and Trujuice are on 17 points, same as Lime Hall Academy.
The Meadforest FC vs Racing United game at Constant Spring could be the highlight of the round between two of the most impressive and consistent teams after eight games.
Racing United, who are coached by Anthony Patrick, are coming off their first loss of the season on Saturday which dropped them from the top two for the first time in a while, so they will be eager to get back to winning ways.
Racing United have broken all goalscoring records so far with a tally of 42, led by Raheem Edwards who has scored 22 of those goals, but they will face one of the best defences with only four goals conceded.
Edwards was kept off the scoresheet for only the second game of the season so he will be eager to add to his tally while Rodari Edwards and Rushawn Oldfield will hope to hand Racing United backto-back losses.
Treasure Beach have quietly forced their way into contention as they are now tied for the lead and face a dangerous Trujuice team which is coming off a big win over Racing United.
It was the second big scalp for Tru-juice as they had ended Meadforest FC’S unbeaten run last month but had lost their next game to unfancied Albion Mountain.
Treasure Beach are on a good run, outscoring teams 13-4 in four games since they were beaten 2-0 by Falmouth United, and will hope to get the better of Tru-juice who they had drawn 0-0 against last season.
Lime Hall Academy and Brown’s Town FC will meet in a St Ann derby at Drax Hall, and both teams have more to play for than just bragging rights.
Depending on the results of the games involving the top four teams, Lime Hall could force their way into the semi-final spots if they can get a win over Brown’s Town today.
Lime Hall have won their last two encounters, conceded just two goals in their last five matches, and will start the game as favourites.
Albion Mountain, who are the only team yet to lose a game, will have a score to settle when they host struggling Hopewell United who had beaten then 5-0 last season.
Albion Mountain are in sixth place — six places higher than Hopewell United and 11 points better — and should add another three points today.
Falmouth United, who are coming off their best score of the season — 6-2 against Portlanders FC — host Wadada United who they had beaten 6-1 in Montego Bay the last time the teams met.
