Knights, Lady Elite1 out front in western basketball league

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cricket Club Knights and Lady Elite1 are the leaders in the Western Basketball Associatio­n Male and Female Invitation­al League, respective­ly, after contrastin­g wins last weekend.

While Cricket Club had a walk over win against Knibb Thunder at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday, Lady Elite1 came from behind to beat Lady Warriors 50-46, outscoring them 28-24 in the second half.

In another game, Granville Jaguars won back-to-back games, beating Muschett Falcons 76-44 after losing their opening game.

Led by former national representa­tive Nicole Dias, who scored a game-high 27 points and had 23 rebounds, Lady Warriors got off to a fast start and led 16-8 after the first quarter before Lady Elite1 rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit to two points at halftime (24-22) before tying up the scores at 38-all going into the final period.

Dandreicka Whittingha­m had a double-double 15 points and 12 rebounds as well as seven steals for Lady Elite1, Ashley Amor led them with 17 points while Taveen Clarke scored 12 points and Nejron Stephenson had 19 rebounds.

Jamelia Hines also scored 16 points for Lady Warriors.

Granville Jaguars dominated Muschett Falcons with Hubert Rodney scoring a game-high 23 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists, leading 26-11 after the first quarter and were up 48-11 at half-time after shutting out the Trelawny club in the second quarter.

Dave Black scored 12 points and Demoy Daye got 10 for Granville as Leroy Lawrence and Cameron Morris also got 12 rebounds each.

Donjay Rearson scored 15 points and got eight rebounds for Muschett, Akile Guthrie scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, and Jermaine Allwood scored 10 points, with Fayzon Mcdermott pulling down 12 rebounds.
