Charges reversed

- Tell Claudienne

Dear Claudienne,

I operate an account and a credit card with Scotiabank, Half-way-tree branch. However, on December 25, 2022, I recognised that my credit card was compromised. I immediately called Scotia Contact Centre and spoke to a customer service rep from the Dominican Republic. She asked me to identify the transactions that I was not aware of and I also told her that there were some deductions from Amazon as well, since June 2022.

Regarding the Amazon ones, the customer service rep advised me that Scotia would only give me back from September/october 2022. However, she assured me that an investigation would be carried out and a total of $175,000.00 would be credited to my account, and that this would take three (3) months. I collected the new credit card at Scotiabank, Half-way-tree shortly after.

I stopped using the credit card pending their investigation. Not hearing from the bank, I have been calling Scotia’s Contact Centre and each time I am told that they are carrying out their investigations. I have also visited the branch to get a resolution to the matter. At the branch an agent took my credit card and ID, but when I waited for sometime and no one attended to me, I became angry and walked out of the bank.

Please note that some of the transactions have been credited back to my account but today, May 5, 2023, I was called by a Scotia Collection Agent and informed that I owed the bank $132,988.40.

I am therefore requesting your assistance in having the discrepancies rectified.

VM

Dear VM,

Tell Claudienne has been in communication with Scotiabank in regard to the discrepancies in the charges on your account. You have informed the column that some of the charges have now been reversed and on May 18, 2023 you sent the column the following e-mail:

“With regard to the above matter, I would like to thank you for your assistance in having Scotiabank reimbursing some of the transactions to my credit card after your intervention.

Please be advised that I have received two e-mails from Scotiabank giving me an update on the disputed transactions, and I am waiting for the remaining amounts to be credited to my credit card within the next five (5) business days, as was promised by Scotia.”

Tell Claudienne notes the e-mail you received from Scotiabank on May 25, 2023 that stated:

“We wish to advise that late fees were reversed on May 22, 2023. Feel free to verify using any of our digital channels. Again, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your continued support.”

When Tell Claudienne spoke to a Scotiabank representative on Thursday, June 1, she said she was working to have the remaining credit card charges you disputed addressed.

We wish you all the best.
