Midnight Flight one for the Classics — Donovan Plummer

TRAINER Donovan Plummer may not want to get too thrilled too soon but one can’t blame him for having dreams after watching his Midnight Flight destroy competitors at the races on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Midnight Flight (Midnight Hawk – Honeymoon) led from the first jump in a dominating 6½-length win in Division One of a maiden condition race for native-bred three-yearold fillies over five furlongs (1,000m) round.

Despite an ordinary final time of 1:02.2 (23.3 x 48.0) Plummer believes he has unearthed a talented racehorse that is expected to compete in the Classic races, especially where the fillies are concerned.

“I am definitely thinking about the Classic races,” Plummer told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“When you have a horse like this you have to think about the Classic races. So when she goes up in class we will see what our opponents have to offer and we can take it from there.

“All the fillies, they basically run almost one way and so it will come down to who has more class and pace. As you go further you train for the endurance races and see what is what,” he further said.

At the off Midnight Flight easily assumed the lead, with Phillip Parchment in the irons. Going into the half-mile (800m) turn Midnight Flight upped the tempo ahead of Lady Gobindia

(Omar Walker) and Ruby’s Light (Jerome Innis).

Entering the drive on a merry clip, Midnight Flight

continued her strong gallop to the line ahead of She’s Dallas Love (Shane Richardson) and Princess Fianie (Tevin Foster).

“Well, it was a nice performance, considering she was a debutante, and she won quite easily. She wasn’t pressed during the race and she had a lot in the tank so we will have to see how she goes on from here. She was timely prepared for this race. If you had noticed her workouts, she wasn’t hardtrained but she trained well,” Plummer explained.
