BUNDESLIGA: Fight on for Champions League spots

- BY CHRISTOPHER SAWYERS

WITH Bayer Leverkusen ending Bayern Munich’s reign as German’s Bundesliga Champions by winning their first-ever Bundesliga title last week, the Champions League positions will now be hotly contested with Bayern, RB Leipzig, Stuttgart, and Dortmund fighting for three spots.

Leverkusen will host third-placed Stuttgart and RB Leipzig takes on Dortmund in two mouth-watering clashes on Saturday.

Event # 1 – GER – RB Leipzig vs Dortmund – 8:30 AM

Its fourth versus fifth when RB Leipzig host Dortmund tomorrow, as both teams battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot in what has been as intriguing Bundesliga battle so far this season.

RB Leipzig are on a roll having gone unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions, which included a 1-1 draw with Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in Champions League action. The red-hot Leipzig defeated a stubborn Heidenheim 2-1 away from home last weekend, to enter this vital clash high on confidence. That win was RB Leipzig’s third in a row in the league and the fifth time in their last six matches that they have scored at least two or more goals.

Dortmund, like other teams before them this season, were minutes away from defeating newly crowned champions Leverkusen; however, they couldn’t manage to become the team to end Leverkusen’s record-breaking unbeaten run (45-games) and conceded an equaliser in the final minute of stoppage time, with the match ending 1-1.

That draw hurt Dortmund’s top four hunt, but they are just two points behind their opponents RB Leipzig in third and a win would see them leapfrog their rivals into the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Like RB Leipzig, Dortmund are in excellent form in recent times, having overturned their first-leg deficit against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final clash to win 4-2 and secured their first semi-final appearance since 2013.

Justbet customers who makes a bet for $1,500 or more from March 1 to April 28, 2024, will be entered into a draw to win a trip to the 2024 UEFA Champions League finals.

Event # 2 GER – Leverkusen vs Stuttgart – 11:30 AM

Bayer Leverkusen finally won their first Bundesliga title last weekend after drawing 1-1 away to top four hopefuls Dortmund, to extend their remarkable run to 45 matches unbeaten in all competitions.

The newly crowned Bundesliga champions will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten run in their best season ever and would extend their excellent home form having won five and drawn one of their last six matches on their own turf, scoring 14 times and conceding just twice.

Having enjoyed unprecedented success so far this season, Leverkusen’s remarkable feat could set them apart as one of the legendary teams in German football history, as they are on the cusp of setting a record for the highest points total in the Bundesliga, a record held by Bayern Munich (91 points). Leverkusen, currently on 80 points, must win their remaining four matches to be the new record holders.

Stuttgart have put together an impressive season so far, as they sit third in the league, three points behind second-placed Bayern Munich, and have almost assured themselves a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Their success this season can be largely attributed to their formidable attacking duo of Serhou Guirassy and Deniz Undav, as both players have combined for 42 of their team’s 68 goals to date.

When both teams met in the league earlier this season, the game ended 1-1, but Leverkusen knocked them out of the DFB Pokal cup with a 3-2 score line. Stuttgart will be aiming to end their winless run against Leverkusen, having drawn their last two league meetings.

Justbet customers who makes a bet for $1,500 or more from March 1 to April 28, 2024, will be entered into a draw to win a trip to the 2024 UEFA Champions League finals.
