39 receive GG’S Achievement Awards
The GGAA recognises and celebrates exceptional Jamaicans who are leading change within their communities
ANOTHER 39 remarkable Jamaicans from various age groups and backgrounds are now recipients of the Governor General’s Achievement Awards (GGAA).
During Friday’s national presentation ceremony at King’s House, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen hailed the 2024 awardees for their remarkable achievements and for demonstrating outstanding personal success and leadership within their communities.
“Each of their stories is a testament to the incredible resilience and the determination that define us as a nation and a people. We honour you… for using what is right with Jamaica to fix what is wrong with Jamaica,” he said.
Allen implored the awardees, all of whom he described as embodying the essence of excellence and service, to continue looking inward to discover their boundless talents and strengths, and outwards to see how they can continue to fulfil their purposes.
He particularly hailed their resilience displayed during challenging periods, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent passage of the impactful Hurricane Beryl.
He noted that the theme for this year’s awards: ‘A Legacy of Excellence, Achievement and Service’, “perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our nation — built on resilience, unity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence”.
St Andrew’s awardee in the 25-35 age group, Vashan Brown, responding on behalf of the recipients, deemed it a “significant achievement” to be counted among those who have made an indelible mark on Jamaica.
“At the same time, we cannot pause, we cannot rest, we cannot stop. Our communities still need us, our country still needs us, the world still needs us,” Brown said.
He expressed appreciation to the governor general and Lady Allen for “continuing to recognise and promote excellence among young people in Jamaica”.
Established in 1991, the GGAA recognises and celebrates exceptional Jamaicans who are leading change within their communities and excelling in areas of leadership and academics despite adversities.
