THE TOP performer at this year’s 38th staging of the prestigious Gibson Relays will be presented with the Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook trophy.

The trophy is named in honour of the late McCook, founder of the Gibson Relays. McCook, a past president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (now Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association), died last year.

Organisers of the event set for February 22 have promised a bigger and better meet this year. The relays event has consistently attracted all the top local high, primary and preparatory schools, clubs and institutions.

Professor Rainford Wilks, chairman of the Gibson Relays, lauded the sponsors, especially those who have been around since its inception.

“We wish to commend all the sponsors, those who have been with us from the first staging, and especially Puma, our sponsorship and licensing partners,” Wilks told the gathering at the annual launch and sponsors luncheon at Eden Gardens Wellness and Lifestyle Limited, Lady Musgrave Road, St Andrew yesterday.

“Gibson Relays is a calendar event and we wish to thank the sponsors, and I’m sure they will ben- efit,” he said.

For this year, the event will partner with the Violence Prevention Alliance in promoting a violence-free Jamaica.

GraceKennedy, one of four sponsors who have been on board since 1973, is committed to the long haul with Gibson Relays.
