Young Newnham still in front

NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE Jonathan Newnham shot an impressive 69 on the second day of the Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championships at Caymanas Golf and Country Club yesterday.

Newnham showed his mettle on the challenging Caymanas course with the low gross of the day, which included four birdies on the back nine, and gives him a current total of 143.

Two strokes behind in second is Ian Facey, who finished the day with a 71 for a combined total of 145. In third and fifth positions are O’Shae Haye (152) and Romaine Evans (154), youngsters from the Sandals Golf Foundation. National player Sean Morris ended the second round with 153.

In the men’s 7-11 category, George Hugh is out in front with 164 and tied with Dr Carl Bruce. In third is Richard White (176), and Stainton Baker ended the day with 185. Eric Gagnon is on top in the men’s 12-17 with 183.

After an i mpressive round on Friday, Jamaica Golf Association President Peter Chin shot 75 for a total of 152 to advance his lead in the 0-12 Super Senior group. Three strokes behind is Michael Boyd on 155. Easton Williams is third with 163.

BLAKE IN LEAD

Carlysle Hudson is the leader in the 13-24 section with 190. John Hayletts is in second with 197.

Tiana Cruz held on to the lead in the Ladies Flight A (0-12) with 157. Kei Harris is second with 162. Michele Gabay is third with 175. Murine Blake is still the leader in Flight B with 190. Diane Hudson is in second place.
