Western Confed boss hails league sponsor

-

CHAIRMAN OF the Western Confederation Linnel McLean has hailed Charley’s JB Rum for its contribution to football in the west.

“We really appreciate the support we have received from Charley’s JB Rum. They took over the title sponsorship this season and we truly appreciate all they have done. Their contribution has assisted with prizes, incentives, fees for referees and other associated costs that come with this kind of competition,” McLean said at the recent presentation of the Western Confederation Super League Champions’ Cup.

Savannah Football Club took home this year’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League Champions’ Cup and has qualified to compete for a place in next season’s National Premier League.

BRAND RECOGNITION

Since 2013, the Charley’s JB Rum has pumped more than $5 million into the Western Confederation, and Pietro Gramegna, marketing manager for White Spirits at J. Wray & Nephew Limited, said people in the west now identify with the brand.

“Charley’s JB Rum is so much a part of Jamaica’s culture, especially in the west,” said an excited Gramegna.

“The popularity of this brand goes beyond its taste. The people of the west identify with the brand. In supporting the Western Football League, we wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to the people. We intend to pursue other sponsorship opportunities not only in the west but across Jamaica,” Gramegna added.

Each participating team in the overall competition received approximately $50,000. The top four shared $500,000, while $80,000 was set aside for sectional prizes, including the best goalkeeper, defender, mid-fielder, leading goalscorer, most valuable player and match commissioner of the season.

The confederation also organises ‘round robin’ events to further promote and encourage sportsmanship and camaraderie among the participating teams, all of which received a case of Charley’s JB Overproof Rum.
