Facey holds two-stroke lead

IAN FACEY played a steady round to emerge as the new leader in the men’s 0-6 category, on day three of the Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championsh­ip at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club.

Facey finished yesterday’s competitio­n scoring one over par at 73, for a combined total of 281, which gave him a twostroke lead.

Jonathan Newnham, who led the first two days, relinquish­ed his hold with a third-round score of 77, for a combined total of 220.

Holding firmly in third position is O’Shae Haye with 231, while Romaine Evans, also from Sandals, is fourth with 234, followed by national representa­tive, Sean Morris, who is a stroke behind on 235.

Dr Carl Bruce is the leader in the men’s 7-11 category after shooting 86 on the third day, for a total of 250. George Hugh is second with 253, and Richard White third with 265. Eric Gagnon had 269 in the 12-17 category.

Even with nine bogeys and two triple bogeys, Jamaica Golf Associatio­n (JGA) president, Peter Chin, continued to lead the men’s 0-12 Super Senior category with rounds of 77, 75 and 86. His closest rival, Michael Boyd, is four strokes behind on 242. Gordon Hutchinson recovered from a disastrous second round to grasp third with 246.

Carlysle Hudson is still in front in the Super Senior 13-24 category with 280, followed by John Hayletts, 297.

Meanwhile, Tiana Cruz maintained her focus and her lead in the women’s 0-12 category with 82, for a three-day total of 240. Kei Harris is second with 241, after shooting 79, and Michele Gabay is third.

Murine Blake leads the women’s 13-24 category after scoring an impressive 79 for a 269 grand total. Second is Diane Hudson.

Action on the final day starts at 7:30 a.m.
