Grade 4 teacher crowned St Bess Festival Queen
CHARLESHA BAKER, a 22year-old teacher from Pepper District was on Saturday crowned Miss St Elizabeth Festival Queen at the Alpart Sports Club in Nain, St Elizabeth.
Wearing the sash Miss Camric Hardware, Baker, who works at the Park Mountain Primary School as a grade-four teacher for a pull-out group of boys with literacy problems, was a crowd favourite from the start.
She impressed the crowd even further with her talent piece titled ‘St Elizabeth on the Rise’, which spoke about the positives of living in the parish.

Baker also took the sectional prizes for most congenial, most outstanding performance and most communityinvolved.
She said she always had a passion for working with young people and felt that the competition would give her a greater platform to do so. In addition, she observed that young men in the community seemed uncertain of what to do when it came to selecting a career path, and as a result, she developed a career guide programme to assist them in that regard. Baker says she hopes this programme will expand to a national programme, should she be crowned the National Festival Queen.
First runner-up prize went to 22-year-old Shanek Williams, sponsored by St Bess Pharmacy; while 22-year-old Heidian Ebanks, sponsored by Junction Oasis Café Restaurant, was the second runner up.
