DHL hosts book drive

DHL’S CORPORATE Social Responsibility Committee will be easing the back to school troubles with their Back to School Book Raiser. DHL is asking the public to get involved by donating books for needy primary and secondary school children at specified locations.

DHL boxes have been placed at selected drop locations islandwide for the collection of the books. Students who need books should email their booklist to: csrcjm@dhl.com or drop them off at the selected locations. Those patrons who make a contribution to the Book Raiser will get 20 per cent discount off their next DHL shipment. The company will also buy books to offset the deficit for students heading back to school. After the collection, DHL will sort them by school level using the submitted booklists. Then on August 24, the final presentation of the books will be done at the DHL Express offices in Kingston and Montego Bay.

Joni-Gaye Cawley of DHL told The Gleaner, “Every quarter, we have focus and, in tune with the time of year, we chose this. DHL promises that every book given will assist students in their literacy and academic programmes.”

Books donated for a worthy cause will remain out of landfills. The deadline for collection of students’ booklists is August 21. Interested persons can take books to the following locations: Dixon’s Drug Store in Linstead, St Catherine; Copycat in Barbican Centre; the DHL Mandeville location along Manchester Road; Western Union Southcoast Rental in Black River, St Elizabeth; Western Union Kong’s Store in Port Maria, St Mary; and Western Union, Marville Pharmacy in Morant Bay, St Thomas.
