SIZZLING NIGHT FOR MAGNUM DREAM LIVE
AFTER THOUSANDS of persons descended on the white sands of Negril for Skyy Insomnia beach party, to kick-off Appleton Special Dream Weekend, festival goers had a massive treat later that night as they witnessed the Magnum Dream Live Concert at Cayenne Beach, Negril.
The artiste, who stole the show was the ever-prolific Sizzla Kalonji, who executed a near hour-long set of hit singles from his decorated reggae-dancehall catalogue. No matter the diversity of his song choice, Kalonji had the entire venue at his command, harmoniously singing tracks such as Praise Ye Jah, Just One of Those Days, Take Myself Away, Rise To The Occasion, and a plethora of others. The crowd did not mind that Sizzla performed as an undisclosed replacement act for
Jah Cure who, unfortunately, was still in Europe. The surprise was well appreciated.
Leading up to Sizzla’s performance, there were a slew of mainstream Jamaican acts who carved their own space of stage-show ownership.
Busy Signal proved why he has remained among dancehall’s elite for nearly a decade. Singles, as far back as Step Out, to his recent trendy WhatsApp, received great crowd response. It was also the same for Christopher Martin, who cooled down the hot temperature of dancehall, serenading females with his silky vocals.
New York and Jamaicabased acts, Dexta Daps and Lincoln 3-Dot, respectively, were also favourites for the women. Dexta Daps, who has risen to golden prominence with his songs, 7 Eleven and Jealous Ova, showed edginess with current street anthem, Shabba Modda Pot.
Stag Beer brand ambassador, Ding Dong, continues to prove his worth for corporate entities, with a fun-filled and clean set, energetic and robust with the help of Syvah, ’Low Mi Nuh, and his Ravers Clavers dance crew.
Tamika West, marketing manager, Dark Spirits, at J. Wray and Nephew Limited, was thrilled by the staging of Magnum Dream Live.
“Appleton Special Dream Weekend is, by far, now considered the largest Caribbean-party experience and, for us to truly be considered an elite global music festival, a live concert of the highest standard must be held, and this was achieved. There was no performer who did not bring their A-game to Negril, as they are more than aware that our stage provides them with a platform to touch Jamaican music lovers from our island to as far as Japan and in-between. Rum rules Negril, and will continue to rule the summer for the rest of Appleton Special Dream Weekend, and thereafter.”
The opening act for Magnum Dream Live was western-Jamaican native, Madda Dan, who was followed by singjay veteran and crowd pleaser, Mr Easy.
