Bigger back to school with LIME and FLOW
AS TELECOMMUNICATIONS firms LIME and FLOW continue to combine their operations, the joint entity is also planning to host two major back-to-school fairs aimed at providing assistance to more than 35,000 students ahead of the reopening of schools in September. The events are scheduled for August 23 and 30 in Montego Bay, St James, and Portmore, St Catherine, respectively.
According to Garfield Sinclair, managing director for the combined telecoms firm, giving back to education has been longstanding and common attributes of both companies.
“Both LIME and FLOW have consistently staged back-to-school programmes (LIME Skool Aid and FLOW Back 2 School) that benefit thousands. This year will be no different. Our combined efforts will again be focused on helping to alleviate the pressure on parents who are often challenged, financially and otherwise, at this time of year,” Sinclair said.
“As we go forward, we will be keeping our focus on education at all levels. More specifically, we will undertake projects to help improve the quality of education offered to all Jamaicans, using our technology and our influence,” he added.
Over the past six years, the companies have invested almost $300 million in the staging of back-to-school programmes, with approximately 120,000 students benefiting from the initiatives.
In Montego Bay, the focal point of the day’s back-to-school fair is the health and wellness zone designed to offer medical checkups and provide school medical certificates, haircuts, school supplies and much more. Rides and discounted stationery supplies and books will be on offer, as the companies are prepared to assist more than 5,000 students at the Old Hospital Park.
At the Jamworld venue in Portmore, a similar programme will be offered. Parents will be able to access medical and dental check-ups for their children and browse a wide selection of discounted school supplies, including tablets, textbooks, uniforms and stationery. Thirtyfive thousand persons will be facilitated at the venue.
Numerous public and private agencies have pledged to collaborate with LIME and FLOW to make each event a success.
Patrons attending both the Montego Bay and Portmore events will be required to secure free tickets at select LIME and FLOW retail outlets across the island.
