Gleaner Online poll to fast-track beauty into Miss Universe Ja top 12
THIS YEAR, t he Miss Universe Jamaica (MUJ) organisers are introducing an exciting new element to the grand coronation come August 29.
The event, which features some of Jamaica’s most beautiful women from across the island and diaspora, will reward one lucky woman who receives the most votes by August 28 the opportunity to walk away with The Gleaner Public Vote Award, as well as being fast-tracked into the coveted top 12.
During a recent visit at a an MUJ training session to announce the big news, Gleaner Online Brand Manager TerriKarelle Reid expressed the readiness of The Gleaner Online platform to participate in an event of this nature, which is a first in MUJ history.
“The Gleaner Online is no stranger to hosting voting competitions and boasts having a robust, secure platform that will maintain the integrity of the voting process. Beauty pageants have long been a pastime of Jamaicans at home and abroad, and with the rise in social media, we are simply giving users the opportunity at home and in the diaspora to be a part of the process to nominate the next beauty ambassador for Jamaica,” she noted.
To vote, users must visit www.go-jamaica.com/muj. Users will be able to vote 15 times per IP address.
Additionally, The Gleaner Online will award the Social Media Award to the contestant who uses her social-media platforms, in particular, Instagram, to chronicle her journey and engage her fans and followers. This is the first competition of its type in a beauty pageant. Each contestant is encouraged to tag her photos with the hashtag #TheNextMUJ, which will be used as a method of tracking their MUJ progress.
Reid continued: “The Gleaner Online is excited to partner with the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation, a platform that has now evolved into becoming a hot ticket on the beauty pageant scene. With the burst of new energy by the new franchise holders and the big success of Kaci Fennell last year, Jamaicans are now even more engaged, both in the traditional sense and via social media. The Gleaner Online saw the need for more social-media involvement and so we are bridging that gap,” the beauty queen-turnedbrand manager ended.”
The Gleaner-Miss Universe Jamaica Public Voting opens today. It also gets more exciting as fans and followers will have the opportunity to win tickets to attend the coronation scheduled for The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
