Family affair at Duncan Sutherland’s nomination
MINERAL HEIGHTS, Clarendon: DR DONALD Keith Duncan was beaming with pride as he accompanied his daughter Patricia Duncan Sutherland to the South Eastern Clarendon electoral office located in Mineral Heights, where she was duly nominated to represent the People’s National Party (PNP) in the impending general election.
“I am very happy to see the first of my two daughters nominated. I am confident that both of them will be successful in their bids to make it in Parliament,” he told The Gleaner.
Duncan’s other daughter, Imani Duncan Price, is to represent the PNP in East Rural St Andrew.
Duncan said both ladies worked really hard to ensure they will be successful and that they are “well prepared”.
Part of that preparation came from his own advice, which he lovingly gave from his vast experience serving in several capacities in the PNP for some 45 years.
Duncan Sutherland will be going up against current Member of Parliament Rudyard Spencer for the South Eastern Clarendon seat, and her father easily dismissed her competition, whom he acknowledged as his friend.
“I am sure he (Ruddy Spencer) knows that this will be his final term for South East Clarendon ... . He might have to go somewhere else if he wants to win,” he confidently stated.
While Duncan Sutherland made the process official, she was cheered on by her husband, Wayne Sutherland, who, although celebrating his birthday yesterday, felt she deserved the ‘present’ of his support.
“My wife always wanted t o go i nto politics and serve, but the children were young and in school. Our youngest child is now 18, and now we are all committed to this process,” said her husband, who is also her campaign manager.
