A vital partner in national development

-

I EXTEND hearty and sincere congratulations to the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) on the momentous achievement of 40 years as the premier grouping in Jamaica representing the collective voice, contributions and interests of the private sector. I have had the opportunity of working with various members and leaders of the PSOJ in the capacities of a member of parliament, minister of Government, prime minister and leader of the Opposition.

The active engagement of the private sector as a full and respected partner in the building of our country is significant for the achievement of national consensus and the successful pursuit of economic growth, social harmony and national development. The Governments that I have participated in and the political organisation I represent have always welcomed the dynamic contribution of the PSOJ as an equal, trusted and vital partner in our national development pursuits.

As important employers of labour, critical producers of goods and services, and active citizens of Jamaica, members of the private sector have been essential contributors to the advancement of our society. As an entity representing businesses, the PSOJ has been

instrumental in the exploration and review of various social and economic issues affecting the nation. The organisation has also been influential in advancing many landmark policy proposals for more effective governance and the achievement of economic growth and development.

Your engagement at the community level, philanthropy and mentorship of entrepreneurs remain indispensable in the constant growth of the entrepreneurial ethos that is so vital for achieving the required high and sustainable levels of economic growth.

In my various public capacities, I have benefited from the work and advice of many members and leaders of the PSOJ over the years. I wish the PSOJ a happy anniversary as the current leaders and members of the entity continue to build on the solid foundations of advocacy and developmental contribution to our society and nation that have been pioneered by your predecessors. PORTIA SIMPSON MILLER Leader of the Opposition
