Best wishes on your 40th anniversary
THE PRIVATE Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has played an invaluable role in championing the issues of significance to the business community and the distinct and unique part that private capital must play for any economy to grow sustainably. It is sometimes forgotten that at the time of its formation, many of the loudest voices in the society were questioning the relevance of private entrepreneurship, proffering public sector-led activities as the key for economic and social progress.
Fortunately, those days are now long behind us. However, what remains is the ongoing process of building and maintaining a robust, enabling environment to support privatesector investment. While some elements of that environment have shown improvement in recent years, in many – ranging from crime to taxation to the reduction of bureaucratic processes – we remain far from where we should be. The PSOJ, I believe, must continue to lead on agitating for improvements on these macro-issues and can count on the support of the various sectoral and industry – specific membership associations.
At the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, we treasure the long and mutually productive relationship that we have enjoyed with the PSOJ since its formation, and we are confident that we will continue that collaboration over the decades ahead.
Best wishes on your 40th anniversary. WARREN MCDONALD President Jamaica Chamber of Commerce
