Kitty, Yanique suspensions hurt ‘Magnum’

THE EDITOR, Sir: THE PRODUCERS of the entertainment show ‘Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall’ (popularly called ‘Magnum’) have lost their mind – completely lost their mind.

I reject the executive producer Mark Kenny’s claim that the show was well received, because if we were to be honest with ourselves, it wasn’t. Last Saturday’s show must have been the worst we have had since its inception. How dare they suspend judge Miss Kitty and host Yanique? What TVJ, especially, has done is to bite the hand that feeds it.

It is funny how sometimes hypocrisy can be so glaring and so popular on those who claim to hold the moral high ground. The people who are in support of the suspension of the two ‘divas’ aren’t necessarily regular viewers of the show and only knew of the high-drama exchanges between Miss Kitty and Yanique after it was aired. Real Magnum viewers were thrilled and appreciated the excitement the ‘manufactured’ beef brought to the show.

TVJ and Magnum must be made to realise that Miss Kitty and Yanique bring a lot of entertainment value to the show and taking them out has caused the show to lose momentum, especially coming off from such a high. Smart producers would find a creative way to exploit and sell the ‘manufactured beef’ to the market, leaving consumers wanting more and more, but, apparently, that doesn’t obtain here.

Those wearing the halo and holding up the holy cross at their chest should leave people who want to enjoy the type of content that Magnum delivers and to do so without any agitation from them.

As for TVJ and Magnum, they should get their market research team to browse social media and on the street and see the real impact of not having Miss Kitty and Yanique on the show.
