J. Wray & Nephew Limited Chairman Clement ‘Jimmy’ Lawrence (left) and Prime Minister Andrew Holness are amused about something during a recent courtesy call when the PM was presented with a coveted 50-year-old bottle of Appleton Rum. He was also updated about the substantial investment made by Gruppo Campari, specifically the plans for growth and expansion of the Appleton Estate Rum Tour and initiatives to minimise the company’s impact on the environment and improve operations.

EUROPE-BASED cannabis expert Davide Fortin will be a featured guest speaker at the inaugural CanEx Jamaica Conference, scheduled for Montego Bay Convention Centre on September 2. Fortin will present his views on cannabis and the medical policies that surround legalising the drug.

A graduate of the Copenhagen Business School, Fortin graduated with an MSc in Advanced Economics and Finance with a focus on the economic impact of the cannabis regulation in Colorado. In his research, Fortin explored various facets of the legal market, including prices, tourism, interstate smuggling, perceived Davide Fortin qualities, and the composition of demands for both medical and recreational users.

Fortin brings significant experience and knowledge to CanEx Jamaica, having lectured at numerous cannabis conferences in both Europe and United States, and is highly regarded in the industry with respect to establishing and evaluating policies surrounding legalisation of the drug.

Fortin has been published in a number of magazines on the subjects of regulations, business and consumer behaviour. As a consultant, his clients include political interest groups, cannabis social clubs and global leaders in medical cannabis research and production. His research interests include applied microeconomics, drug policy and health economics.

Fortin’s future work will investigate the effect of easier access to pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis products on the use of prescription drugs.
