MANDEVILLE, Manchester: THE ANNUAL 5K Run held by the Guardian Group has assisted hospitals across the island acquire much-needed equipment and this year the Mandeville Regional Hospital will be the beneficiary of the ‘Keep it Alive’ initiative.

The group began its partnership with the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in 2010 after a relative of one of its staff members became ill. It donated $11 million to refurbish the Intensive Care Unit and out of that relationship, the Keep It Alive 5K Run was introduced in 2014.

In 2015, the run was extended to the city of Montego Bay. The proceeds for the Montego Bay Night Run went to the Cornwall Regional and the St Ann’s Bay hospitals.

The Mandeville Regional Hospital will benefit from the Kingston Night Run, in addition to the UHWI, while the Cornwall Regional and St Ann’s Bay hospitals will benefit from proceeds raised from the Montego Bay Night Run.

The races for this year are scheduled for November 5, 2016 at 7 p.m. in Kingston and November 12, 2016 at 7 p.m. in Montego Bay.

According to Rotaract Director Lanisia Rhoden, “Service clubs like the Rotary Club of Mandeville will also be able to benefit from this 5K run ... . The clubs will be able to seek sponsorship for the run and to register individuals. Fifty per cent of the funds raised by the clubs will be donated to the hospitals and the remaining 50 per cent will be given to the service club to execute their service projects.”

The cost of registration is $1,200 for individuals and $1,000 each for groups of 20 and more.
