FOR THE first time in its 11-year history, PAN, formerly known as the CB Pan Chicken Championship, will invade Black River, St Elizabeth.

On Saturday, August 27, at Independence Park, 30 competitors representing the parishes of Hanover, St Elizabeth, Clarendon, Manchester, St James, and Westmoreland will battle for pan chicken supremacy at PAN 2016 – Regional 1.

The culinary extravaganza will see PAN chefs compete in a live 60-minute cook-off. A winner and runner-up, will be chosen from each parish to the Grand Final on October 30.

Parish winners will each receive $40,000 cash and gifts from sponsors, while the runners-up will receive $20,000 cash, and other prizes.

“PAN is so much more than an amazing foodie event. It’s about generating increased economic activity and bolstering small business and entrepreneurship. We’ve seen first-hand what PAN can do and it’s only right that more communities can benefit from the PAN experience,” explained Alicia Bogues, brand manager, CB Foods.

Regional 1 of Pan 2016 is a family-oriented event. Not only will succulent and specially priced pan chicken be available to patrons throughout the day, but there will also be a wide variety of entertainment and a kiddies’ village, featuring numerous games and rides, courtesy of Monster Milk.

“Entertainment is an important part of our events. A few years ago, we decided to incorporate a variety of performers so that there was really something for everyone,” states Bogues.

Comedian Dufton Shepherd and disc jockey Badda Bling will guide the day’s proceedings.

All competitors are vetted and selected through the Social Development Commission.
