- Carl Gilchrist Gleaner Writer

AFTER A quiet start to his musical career, followed by a break to study overseas, conscious DJ Amlak Redsquare (birth name Omar Gordon) was inspired to return to music by the death of his cousin, Carlyle Grant, son of entertainer Spragga Benz.

It was quite fitting, therefore, that Amlak Redsquare should join forces with his uncle's label, RSQRB Productions, to pursue his musical career.

Two weeks ago, Amlak released his debut album entitled

The Book of Judges, produced by him and King Opossum for RSQRB Productions and Germany-based True Lion Sounds Production.

The album marked a huge forward step in the artiste's career, one which he hopes will help him achieve his musical goals.

The 11-track album features several collaborations such as

Get Ready (featuring Kazam Davis, Too Late (featuring Jah Exile), Tek Yu Beating (featuring Spragga Benz and Rseenal Di Artillery), and Freestyle (featuring Exile Di Brave and Toke)

HOUSEHOLD NAME

"I know a lot of people might be surprised that I've released an album before having a big hit single or dropping an EP, but the release of this album is a very significant step on my musical journey," Amlak explained. "It's a great feeling to know I'm able to put out a solid full-length project so early in my career, and I'm confident that it will help to make me a household name in reggae music."

Prior to its local release, Amlak went on a two-month promotional tour of Europe, between July and September.

Since returning to Jamaica, the artiste has been promoting the record locally.

"I've done a lot of work to promote the album in Europe and it's paying off handsomely, because that's one of the main markets where it is doing well. Over the past month or so, I've been promoting the album locally and I've been getting a lot of positive feedback about it everywhere I go," he said.

As the name might suggest, the album takes listeners on a Bible-inspired journey as the artiste expresses his Rastafarian beliefs.

The Book of Judges track listing is as follows: (1) Judge (2) Get Ready (feat Kazam Davis), (3) Judgement Day, (4) Neva Know, (5) Your Love, (6) Wildfyah, (7) Too Late (feat Jah Exile), (8) Fyah Bun, (9) Tek Yu Beating (feat Spragga Benz & Rseenal Di Artillery), (10) Freestyle (feat Exile Di Brave & Toke), (11) Creator Works.
