Continue to deliver excellent service
‘DATA MANAGEMENT for Effective Border Management’, the theme of Jamaica Customs Week 2017, signals the commitment of Jamaica Customs to the effective management of Jamaica’s borders, including protection from illicit trade and the preservation of revenues that are so vital for national development. I therefore extend warm greetings and best wishes to the management and staff of the Jamaica Customs Agency as the agency hosts another annual Customs Week, part of the global commemoration of International Customs Day.
I commend the agency for engaging Jamaicans on a theme that highlights the importance of safeguarding the country’s borders and as such, demonstrating the crucial role of Customs as part of the national security apparatus. I want to underscore the vital part played by proper data management for countries to efficiently execute border management activities.
The work of the Jamaica Customs Agency is vital to the entire operations of the Government of Jamaica and to the economic and social wellbeing of our country and people. I continue to be of the view that Jamaica Customs is critical as the country builds on the foundations already laid to maintain stability in the economy, improve productivity, encourage business expansion and trade, and create high levels of economic growth necessary for improving the quality of life for all Jamaicans.
As you host your annual Customs Week, I extend my best wishes and encourage the management and staff of the Jamaica Customs Agency to continue striving to deliver excellent service, foster compliance, and contribute to our national development and protection of the society. May you have a successful week of activities. PORTIA SIMPSON MILLER Leader of the Opposition
