CES 2017 highlights
THE BIGGEST consumer electronics show is over, but the buzz around some of the devices unveiled is still alive. So this week, let’s recap and highlight four devices that stood out this year at CES 2017.
HUAWEI FIT
Although Huawei unveiled the Mate 9 at CES 2017, they also had many more devices pouring on to the showroom floor, and the Huawei Fit was one of them. The emphasis of this device is fitness to the core – with a heart rate monitor, pedometer and a promised battery of at least six days. Design-wise the Huawei Fit looks simple and compact. It comes with a black-andwhite display that most people might find too old-school, but the six days of battery life is certainly appealing.
SAMSUNG QLED TV
So, with the scandal surrounding the Note 7 and other randomly exploding products, Samsung still came through for CES 2017 and brought their new line of QLED TVs. At the Samsung booth, they had the flat 88” Q9F TV and 65” Q8C TV on which they were showing off some astonishing visuals of HDR videos. They also had informative graphics explaining how the quantum dot has been upgraded to provide even more pure colours (true RGB), as well as strengthen their durability and energy efficiency.
ZTE AXON 7 MAX
Who said 3D was dead? ZTE seems to miss that memo and went right ahead building a unique smartphone that uses naked-eye 3D technology. Simply put, you can see the 3D visual effect without any additional accessories. The truth is that the first time you see the 3D on this display, you’ll be blown away by how good it looks. If that wasn’t enough, ZTE added the ability to take 3D photos with the rear camera. We tried out this feature and it worked exactly as how it was advertised. The ZTE Axon 7 Max has all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a flagship device – like super AMOLED display, the last Android OS, 4GB of RAM and so on.
TOYOTA CONCEPT-I
Everyone has their own vision on how future tech should look and function, but Toyota took those ideas and made it a reality. CES is a place to showcase tech that person wouldn’t dream existed, and artificial intelligence was the main theme of the automotive industry this year. So, believe it or not, Toyota said that the Concept-I can measure your emotional response to the places you drive while using the information to build a relationship with you. Yes, you read that right. I wonder what kind of personality this car would develop after a month being a taxi running the downtown to Half-Way Tree route in Jamaica? Anyhow, this is the pet project of the Californians at Toyota’s CALTY Design Center that believe cars should be more personally invested in our lives. This eerie future is all possible due to a built-in AI named ‘Yui’, which is represented by a flashing blue circle and a quirky tone; ‘Yui’ can be used to operate every function of the car by just speech.

CES 2017 is the place to be for future technology and it always astound us about what can make it on the showroom floors each year.
