Debit card dos and don’ts

-

WE ARE excited about the upcoming Access Plus® Debit ‘Lucky Member’ promotion for 2017. But before we roll out, we want you to bear these dos and don’ts in mind.

DO:

1. Keep your Personal Identification Number (PIN) a secret. Never write your PIN on your card or store it with your card. Memorise your pin numbers and keep your card in a safe place. 2. Review your account statements frequently, for fraudulent transactions. 3. Report lost or stolen ATM/debit cards immediately. 4. Take all receipts from ATMs and merchant outlets (anywhere you use your card to purchase items) with you. Keep them for verification against your statements. 5. Block the view of keypads when using ATMs. 6. Treat your debit card like cash. 7. Cancel all inactive debit cards. 8. Check your account balances regularly. 9. Protect the card’s magnetic stripe. Do not expose your card to magnetic devices. 10. Look for fraudulent devices attached to ATMs. If the machine appears to have any attachments or alterations, do not use it and report the problem to the appropriate financial institution or vendor. 11. Activate and sign all new cards upon receipt. 12. Ensure the correct amount for your purchase is entered into the POS machine before you input your PIN. 13. When an ATM vestibules has a door, please ensure it is locked securely after you enter.

DONT’S:

1. Do not give any ATM or debit card information over the phone or Internet. No one needs to know your PIN, not even your financial institution. 2. Do not allow anyone else to use your card or enter your PIN for you. 3. Do not use poorly lit ATM locations 4. Do not use numbers like your date of birth for your pin number.
