Foster, Farr impressive at Isaac Henry meet
HOLMWOOD TECHNICAL’S Nicolee Foster and Wolmer’s Boys’ Jeremy Farr produced record runs in the 400 metres hurdles at yesterday’s third staging of the S.W. ‘Isaac’ Henry Invitational meet at the National Stadium.
Foster, a third-place finisher in the event at last year’s Champs and a semifinalist at last year’s IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Poland, looked flawless as she easily coasted to victory in 58.36 seconds to erase the old mark of 1:00.73. St Catherine High’s Johnelle Thomas was second in 1:01.47 with Holmwood’s Kwanda Knight taking third in 1:03.43.
The Class Two boys 400m hurdles will be contested at Champs for the first time this year, and Farr blew away a strong field in winning the event in 54.81 seconds to record the fastest time for the age group so far this season. The previous number one and two in the event, Davion Williams of Kingston College and Calabar High’s Nicquaine Henry, fell at the fourth and 10th hurdles, respectively. Jamaica College’s Treziquet James won his heat in 56.64 for second overall, with third going to Andre Leslie of Calabar, 57.16.
Calabar swept the top-three places in the Class One 400m hurdles. Akyeeme Francis led the way with 53.32, edging out Damaine Dixon, 53.33m, with Malik James-King ending third in 54.13.
IMPRESSIVE FORM
Holmwood’s girls continued their impressive form this season. They were first and second in the Class Three 400m. Danielle Deer won in a record of 56.44, with teammate Nattesha Palmer second in 57.24. Osheena Kerr took Class One in 55.73 ahead of Jezelle Shaw of Spalding High, 56.56.
They also topped the 1500 metres and 2000m Steeplechase. Delverna Bromfield won the 1500m Open in 4:50.71 while Megan Thompson captured the Steeplechase event in 7:15.4.
In field events, Kingston College were first and second in the Class Two long jump. Shaquille Lowe won with 6.87 metres ahead of Wayne Pinnock with 6.65m. Richard Campbell and Tyrell Johnson of Calabar tied for third with 6.39m.
Calabar dominated in Class Three. Nicolloyd Brown won with 6.23m ahead of teammates Jordan Turner (6.03m) and Luke Brown, 5.95m.
Calabar’s Kyle Mitchell outclassed his rivals in the Class One boys discus after winning with a throw of 49.87m. Howard Beckford of Jamaica College was second in 44.99m, with third going to his teammate BalVin Richards, 44.49m.
Teammates Dawnalee Loney and Tiffany James of Mico University College dominated the women’s 200m. Loney clocked 24.47 to win her heat and James captured her event in 24.51.
