Pulse Trinidadian model Shalisha heads for shows in Europe
NEWLY SIGNED Pulse model Shalisha Stewart left the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago last weekend, headed to London and Paris for the collections later this month.
A new face, discovered by Pulse in late 2016, the budding star was signed to Models 1 in London and Women in Paris over the past two weeks. Incidentally, both agencies represent Pulse superstar Alicia Burke, in their respective markets.
Already, her videos and polos are creating waves in Europe, and in a few weeks it will become clear if her potential is equal to Pulse’s expectations. Having only modelled for a few shows in Trinidad and Barbados, Shalisha is keen to make the best use of her new opportunity, which she sees as a dream come true. One of eight siblings, Shalisha tells Outlook, “I’m very excited.”
A past student of Bishop’s High School in Trinidad, Shalisha’s top subjects were business and photography. Before modelling came along, the 22-year-old saw her career options as acting, photography or becoming a chef. Now, her creative instincts are being given rein through modelling.
PULSE’S PIONEERING ROLE
Shalisha’s signing marks a new phase in Pulse’s pioneering role in the development of modelling in the Caribbean, which it commenced 37 years ago. Having single-handedly developed a new industry for the region in the 1980s, this has snowballed into the successful careers of outstanding stars such as Kimberley Mais, Romae Gordon, Nadine Willis, Nikki Vassell, Nicole Skyy Gray, Lois Samuels, Steven Hector, Sedene Blake, Justine Willoughby, Angela Neil, Carla Campbell, Jaunel McKenzie, Juline Samuels, Sanya Hughes, Parisa Fitz Henley and Sunna Gottshalk, to name a few.
Pulse is happy to deepen its penetration of the wider Caribbean market for new model faces. Its new cadre of stars, such as Francine James, Alicia Burke and Alwyn Danvers, join established heavyweights Jeneil Williams, Nell Robinson and Oraine Barrett, currently in the international space. Williams enjoyed her best ever year in 2016, booking her largest annual career gross.
Now Shalisha adds the wider Caribbean dimension, on which Pulse will focus significant attention in the months ahead. A new TV series and searches in Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana and St Lucia are the vehicles to be used for this initiative.
