Igniting a creative change for youth ministry
“MANY ARE the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that
prevails” (Proverbs 19:21) continues to ring in my ears as I reflect upon my life’s journey.
True discipleship begins with a conscious desire to serve the Lord in spirit and in truth. Although a Catholic, I didn’t grow up going to Mass every Sunday. I recall my father sending me to Bethel Baptist with my aunt and cousins whenever mommy was too tired to attend
Mass. In those moments, I experienced the beauty of a God who is truly omnipresent, but only in the Roman Catholic Church do I encounter Jesus fully alive in the Eucharist.
At confirmation, the Holy Spirit ignited a burning desire in my heart for young people and it has remained for over 14 years. That passion led me to resign as senior tax associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers to fulfil God’s purpose for my life. I resigned not knowing where this journey would lead me, but confident that God’s plan would prevail. And it has! I am now the first director of youth ministry in the Archdiocese of Kingston.
Many have asked what this new position entails. To be honest, this is a work in progress. I know that it is an opportunity to fully live out my life goal: To positively impact society through faith, hope, love, inspiration, hard work, commitment and honesty in everything I do. And, I want to be more, to inspire more, to serve more, to do more and to ignite a creative change for the youth under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I hear their cry and I want to allow God to use me to lead them to the answer. Enabled by the grace of God, I want to make a positive change, but I cannot do it alone; we all have to play our part!
