Diocese of Montego Bay to host first Jesus Generation Youth Convention
THE DIOCESE of Montego Bay Catholic Youth and Vocations Commission is focused on the youth as they search for a purpose in life, especially those vulnerable in our society. The commission creates strategies in working with the youth to nurture them in the gospel of Jesus and the love of the Blessed Mother, and thus develop a productive and generous generation of young people.
We want our youth to feel a belonging to the Church, and feel reassured that their voices are heard; we want to provide them an alternative to the social networking which are detrimental to their spiritual growth. We want to ground them in their faith so that they do not become delinquent and stop caring for church and for one another.
POSITIVE NETWORKING
Youth activities such as Youth Convention, Youth Rallies and our annual Bishop’s Cup Sport Fest allow them to nurture their talents and build positive networking among Catholic youth throughout the diocese. These are opportunities to be with each other, to know that the Church cares for their holistic growth as they build the faith of one another through positive interaction.
The Youth Empowerment Initiative by Bishop Burchell McPherson is another opportunity for the youth to integrate the values of a good and productive Christian citizen in youth; we hope it will motivate them to lead a better Christian lives and provide them a platform to develop and showcase their skills, rooted in Jesus’ teachings. One such initiative is Jesus Generation Convention.
THREE-DAY CAMP
Jesus Generation Convention is a three-day camp for Roman Catholic youth to gain the experience of prayer, community, and empowerment. There will be music, prayer, workshops, liturgy, and opportunities to participate in the Sacrament of Penance. Concerts, dances, and a comedy club are also planned. A ‘vocation exhibition’ with interactive educational and recreational activities is also planned for the convention.
The convention will be hosted by the Team Work Christian Centre in Flower Hill, Montego Bay, on March 2-4, 2017, at a subsidised cost of $3,500 per participant. We pray this convention becomes a life-changing experience for our youth.
