PCJ gives energy boost to Herbert Morrison

HERBERT MORRISON Technical High School will be installing a 3-000-watt grid-tied solar photovolta­ic (PV) system having received a $500,000 grant from the Petroleum Corporatio­n of Jamaica (PCJ ) after students from the institutio­n placed second in the Science Category of the 2015-16 Schools Energy Programme Competitio­n.

A four-member team from the Montego Bay-based high school entered a model design depicting how renewable energy could be used to provide electricit­y for a building on their school campus, which won second prize in the 16-19 age category of the competitio­n. In addition to $40,000 each, the students won funding to implement an energysavi­ng project to help reduce their school’s electricit­y costs.
